Monster - Black hoodie, trousers, shoes - The reason that it's going to be black is because it gives the representation of death and loneliness giving for a deeper, sadder meaning to it. It also shows that the character is mysterious and ominous leaving the audience clueless to who the person behind the shadows is.
Prop(s) - Knife - This will be used a bit later in the opening because a knife gives a sense of fear and intimidation to the character. - The knife idea was scrapped as I'm trying to keep away from cliche.
Main protagonist (Tom) - Nike running shoes - this is to show that he is relaxed and comfortable,
Black trousers - School dress code that you have to wear something black indicating that he is still a student but someone higher up in the year.
White top - This indicates the innocence of the character almost like a white flag saying that he doesn't want any trouble.
Red open buttoned t-shirt - This show that he is a smart casual kind of person meaning that he want to look good at school and for other people giving him a more approachable look.
Props - Bag - this is a clear indication tat he has text books in it and that he is coming home from school late. - This was never implemented because there was no reason to add it.
Watch on right wrist - the character is left handed show that he is different and that he has some money to spend on accessories.
After Dream - Blue jeans - this indicates sadness without showing the emotion.
Grey hoodie - This is to show depression from the aftermath of the experience. It also shows that his emotions might be slipping away from him leaving him to feel like a doll or a puppet.
Black Nike shoes -
Not used due to the time of the opening left me with restrictions (didn't have long enough)
Side character (Jen) - Blue jeans, white tank top, socks, no shoes - This shows that she was some place safe but got taken away/kidnapped. It makes the situation they are in more tense as they know that someone can just take you from a safe environment, who else has it taken and what has it done.
The character had to be changed to a guys as there was no girls that could fit role i provided so i had to improvise.

Props
Other props - Cable tie - this is to tie the hands of the protagonist and the side character and their leg so that it shows that they can't escape amplifying the atmosphere and the situation they are in.

Fake Blood - this will be used to show violence and death. - never used as I didn't have the funds for it and the use was not necessary.

LED Torch - This will be used for lighting to create a more natural dark room showing that the place they are in has no natural lighting (or it's night). The effect it gave off was a sinister vibe as most bad acts happen at night and the light shining in the back shows the hidden side of the main protagonist.

Cloth - This will be used as a muzzle for Jen and Tom. this will prevent them from talking to one another so they will have to rely on facial expressions to show their emotions so then the audience will feel it more. - Was not needed because I wanted some dialogue during the scene.

Film Review
James Cameron Avatar was a stunningly beautiful movie with high class CGI work and magnificent actors. As someone who has watched the film I have little criticism towards it making it one of my most favorite movies of all time. The main reason they are on the planet is because they are trying to obtain a material that it rare and highly profitable. As the story progressed you felt a connection towards the characters like Jake (the main character) who started off as someone who just wanted the money to pay for an operation that would restore his mobility to walk again. At the start people might have felt sorry for him and all he has been through (His brother dying) but then thought that with him getting and avatar it would all be great for him and it was but when he went on his first mission he just seems like a gun bearing maniac with little intelligence. When he meets Neytiri and starts to interact more with the navi his point of view about them change from savages to this is their home. He gets taught how to ride a banshee and soon starts to feel as though he belongs with them, as one of their own. Grace the head researcher on the navi is welcomed to their tribe with open hearts and loved by them but she too is only a controlling a puppet to learn more about them. Grace had no intention in trying to move the navi out of their home she just wanted to protect them but when Grace got shot and passed it left me feeling depressed, one of the most sadist deaths I have seen in a movie. Towards the end jack helps fight the with the navi to protect their land but during the fight the commander of the army hunts down Jake’s link pod and kill him but Neytiri does everything in her power to prevent that and kills the commander and Jack and Neytiri meet face to face for the first time. The end of the movie shows Jake being taken to the home tree of Awa to be reborn as a navi (be placed in his puppet) and ends with him opening his eyes leaving a feel of suspense.
Cinematography

Jurassic park show a lot of cinematic shots from extreme close ups to low angles. It uses a close up on a man's face to get his facial expression to a tense situation because he has no idea what might happen when the container opens leaving the audience to feel on edge as they might not know what is in the container. Then it goes on to a medium close up with multiple people in it to catch their stern faces making the atmosphere more tense. Shortly after it moves on to a medium shot showing the lower half of a man holding a gun representing a sense of danger in the area as guns are a symbol of violence but as it zooms in to it show the man's face he is very serious and ready for what is to happen. It also starts at a low angle shot making seem higher up compared to the others almost like he's in charge of the operation. It moves on to do a crane shot showing all of the people in the operation and given the sheer number of them make the audience think what is in the that requires that many people. A POV shot is soon put in after giving you the perspective of the raptor looking out the cage through a small hole staring at the people making you understand that the raptor is in a close space as it's field of view is smaller than most people's. Straight after is does a medium shot of the people showing even more but also showing more of them with guns giving a tenser atmosphere know something incredibly dangerous is in the cage. It then pans right following people as they run around the cage to secure it once again show the signs of danger but also the signs of preparation as they must have be very organised. When the cage is opened the camera is static showing the strength of the raptor being able to push the heavy cage a few metres back. Once the raptor has a hold of the man the camera does a high angle shot to get a over view of the panic that occurs after he is bitten. A close up of the electric rods are shown shortly after to show a load of sparks and smoke coming from it to show how strong and resilient the raptors are after they bite their prey making them seem incredibly dangerous. Following the close up is an extreme close up of the raptors calm looking eyes and quickly moving on to the protagonists eyes looking completely the opposite of the raptors more strained and scared showing the brute strength of the dinosaurs making humans seem inferior. It moves on to an extreme close up of his mouth after to get a better feel of what he is shouting but to also get the emotion of it straight after the extreme close up moves on to the man's hand (who is being attacked) which is moving for a little bit but then stop moving meaning that he has died, it also shows the importance of some characters, the ones that die are normally the side characters of the story making them lees important.

Sound
http://npafilmas.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/homework-3-sound.html
At the start of the film there is just a black screen with narration over it to get the view attached in the story meaning that it starts with a non diegetic sound. You also hear the sound of gun shots and a man saying “why are you hurting these people?” making it parallel to the story. The sound is coming from different sides making it sound like voices in your hear whispering to you making it seem discordant and unsettling. The voice over is a strong deep voice that gives the sense that the voice is you thinking out loud. The child saying “hello” has a slight echo to it making it seem ghost like and discordant. Unnatural. You hear the baron wasteland in the background with the wind blowing and the sand scattering across the screen making it a dietetic sound however, it also includes non diegetic sound as the narration is still going on. It moves on to the lizard, you can hear it scatter across the ground quickly, it give the feeling that since the lizard is being heard of then something might happen to it getting a slight vibe of danger. You then hear an over powering voice coming form him but still hear the faint scattering of the lizard as it get closer to him. When the lizard gets to him her crushes it and all of the sounds stop for a second and everything is still giving it quite a discordant feel to it however, the sounds are parallel to it. You can hear the crunch of the dead lizard as he stars eating it leaving the viewer wondering why he would eat a disgusting lizard raw. It jumps to a close up of his face and as he turns it make a contrapuntal sound, it has a mix of of car engines and wind (I think). The contrapuntal sound is over powering the sounds of him trying to pack all of his gear in to his bag meaning that the cars are getting close making the situation tense and unnerving. It then moves on to the roar of the engine, this is a diegetic sound that is loud because there is no other sound going on in the background. When there is silence it creates an impact of curiosity in the audience because they can't tell what happened and why he suddenly drove away in a rush. The sound of cars flying by gives the sense of an action sequence might occur and with the sound of people shouting/cheering in a abrupt manner makes the audience see that the man is being chased creating a sense of panic and danger.

Idea Update 2
The original friend character was going to be a girl however, i could not find anyone who could play the girl at the time so i changed the character to a male instead. the idea that a man is a better friend to a man was a good change as men tend to get along better with one another. The guy had to look friendly and approachable so that people will be sad about him dead on the floor even though they don't know who he is. This small attention to detail i thing will have a significant change on how people view the opening.
Idea Update
Characters and Actors:
Ben Davies - Main protagonist. Name: Tom. The main character suffered from a physiological disorder where he is being attacked by his own mind. The illusions that he has in his dreams feel real to him and any pain that he feels during them he feels in real life which is slowly traumatizing him and turning him insane.
Filip - Monster. This being is the thing that is attacking Tom (Ben). He has unusual skin that glows and eye the burn red.
Girl actor (not sure who yet). Side character. Name: Jen (short for Jennifer). She is Tom's best friend who has always helped him in his time of need but when the monster get a hold of her Tom starts to develop terrible hallucinations that soon start to manifest outside of his head.
Basic story:
The basic premise of the story is that Tom from a young age wanted a best friend but he was alone when he was young so he had to create an imaginary best friend to fill the gap. His imaginary best friend was nothing like a normal kid intact far from it. It started to try and manipulate Tom to do what can only be called as irrational things. When Tom revolts against his imaginary friend, it starts trying to take over his mind and body but was unsuccessful due to Tom making his first friend called Jen. She built up his confidence and trust in people slowly making his imaginary friend fade away.
As years went by Tom (aged 17) started to become stressed from all the work in school, slowly starting to open his mind and once again letting anything happen to it. The imaginary friend, who Tom thought was dead, took advantage of this to resurrect himself in Tom's mind and try to take over his body once again, this time taking a different approach and trying to break him from the inside out.
Voice over actor - Jamie Homden

3 Point Lighting Research
Fill light - This is the secondary light that is place next to the key light. It's mainly used to get rid of the shadow that the key light makes and to do this it is normally dimmer than the key light.

High key light - This it he main light that tries to be free from dark shadows giving it a more realistic effect.

Low key light - Low-key lighting often uses only one key light, optionally controlled with a fill light or a simple reflector. It gives it a more natural lighting look rather than artificial.

Film Title Fonts Research
The Conjuring:
It has a simplistic font and the size of it doesn't stand out much. The color of it is white with a black background with a blood splattered pattern. This can give a representation of death and sorrow but also emotionless and cold as black and white are a bland color.
Crave:

Crave:
The font looks like a sign from an old fashioned diner with a hard red in lining the title indicating violence but with the dark, dirty background it gives the feeling of gore and death.
The title is sharp but the pattern that is shown is like branches cross cutting one another to give a forest like effect. The colour red which symbolizes blood letting the view know that its a horror film and not a romance.
In this the title is hand written using calligraphy which is a nice flow of writing. The colour is black representing death and darkness. The background is like dirty old paper making giving the effect of the time period.
Primary Audience Research
How old are you?
I'm asking for their age because I want to know what age group are more interested in the film. Also who are more willing to see the film.
How often do you go to the cinema a month?
Knowing the frequency of how often they go can show if they are frequent customers or just one off again showing which people enjoy what movie.
What is the most recent film you have seen?
This allows me to know what kind of genre of films they might like?
What is this your favourite film?
This again will show what films they may like?
Why is this your favourite film?
This will give an indication of what draws them to the film, it could be the visuals or actors or the CGI (if it has any).
How much do you normally spend to go to the cinema?
This will tell me if the reason why they don't go that often is because the cinema is too expensive or not.
Which do you prefer: 'Films that are longer (3 hours +) or films that are shorter?
This can tell me if someone is willing to spend a longer duration in the cinema for the film.
What would you like to see in a horror film?
This can help me figure out what people are looking for which could be more scares or a better plot even better sound effects.
Do you mainly go to the cinema if there i a discount going on?
This can tell me if they go when it is cheaper.
Do you watch movies online?
This can let me know if they like watching movies online because it's convenient.

Audience Research Secondary
http://business.pearlanddean.com/films_guide_details/7604/morgan
Morgan is compared to Chappie and the profile shows that it's 45% aimed at 15-24 year old, 22% aimed at 25-34 year olds, 18% aimed at 35-44 year old, 15% aimed at 45+ year old and the rest are 0%. It's 76% aimed towards men and 24% aimed at women the classes being AB 26%, C1 34%, C2 26% and DE 14%. Its a SI-FI, Thriller Distributed by twentieth century fox.
http://business.pearlanddean.com/films_guide_details/7415/lights-out
The next film is lights out which is compared to the conjuring. It's a horror which is 59% aimed at 15-24 year old, 24% aimed at 25-34 year old, 8% aimed 35-44 year old and 9% aimed at 45+ year old. This makes it a film aimed more towards the mature audience. It's aimed more aimed towards woman with a 56% to 44% comparison which doesn't mean that much but if it's going for stereotypes then that would mean that it could be more story driven or have some more touchy elements to it. The film it's self isn't anything spectacular but it does have a few good jump scares.
http://business.pearlanddean.com/films_guide_details/7579/cell
Cell is compared with Phone Booth It's a horror which is 41% aimed at 15-24 year old, 35% aimed at 25-34 year old, 12% aimed 35-44 year old and 12% aimed at 45+ year old. this makes it a film aimed more towards the mature audience. Men seem to be the more where the film is looking which could mean that it's a more action pact film with more violence.
How will this affect my ideas?
With what I have seen in this my idea for the film opening has changed a little in terms of different font and different camera angles and location. I want to make a mature film that covers a physiological horror aspect. Most of the scenes will be in the dark making it more noticeable as a horror film also it might or might not have some jump scares to it depending on how I would be able to achieve it. I'm going to do a few over the shoulder shots and a lot of close ups because I want to get the emotions of each character from when they are scared and when they happy or sad because it give the film depth and meaning.
Target audience.
From what I have seen it would be aiming my film more towards 15-24 year old because they have a better understanding of different feelings and emotions that the film is trying to portray. Also it's aimed more towards males because since the main protagonist is male they male audience will feel a stronger connection to him making for a better opening however, the female audience won't shy away as it has a strong story behind it.

Mise-en-Scene Research
The conjuring:
The start of the opening has a dark grey atmosphere leaving the audience to feel depressed or have a sense of fear. The characters facial expressions are quite mellow and bland however, due to the situation it works well as they just don't know what to do really. The checkered sofa and curtains indicate a sense of trend in the house but the clothing they wear are gloomy telling you their mood without saying anything. on the other hand despite being bland it looks as they were trying to be smart casual like they their going to see someone they have never met before. The lighting indicates that outside must be cloudy but not raining leaving hard shadows on the characters almost like a bit of foreshadowing as black is they colour of death.

The lighting around the doll is crisp and clear making it easier to see all of the cracks in it's face but also the outfit and hair which is much neater than what she is. The doll give of a shivering vibe up someones spine just by the way she looks. Despite her appearance she has neat hair like someone has been looking after it even though the girls are too scared to tough it giving the idea that someone or something keeps appearing to keep it nice.
The house layout look's quite old fasioned and out of style making the doll scene seem like the doll was passed down to them from one of their parents or grandparents. the colours of the sofa is grey and checkered which also indicated an old person lives/lived there. The flowers on the sofa suggest frail but elegant like an old person and with their distinct colours can show their personalities.

Their body movement is quite little and most of them have their hand linked like their nervous or scared about something. The guy on the right is keeping to himself, he is making no eye contact with the doll or the people across from him showing that he is scared or confused. Their all hunched over showing no confidence in what they say.

The lighting is always quite dim and dark in some cases because most horror film are portrayed in the dark making it one of the most iconic thing in horror films. At times the lighting is put underneath them making it seem like they are telling a horror story.
